Meals on Wheels - Anderson
About Meals on Wheels - Anderson......
The purpose of Meals
on Wheels - Anderson is to deliver nutritious meals to individuals in need and to build
community awareness and support to meet that need. By providing these
meals, Meals on Wheels assists the elderly and disabled in maintaining their
health, independence, and quality of life. Nutrition is extremely important
to maintain good health and Meals on Wheels provides 1/3 of the daily
nutritional requirements for participants. Many would not be able to stay in
their own homes without the assistance provided by the agency and its many
volunteers.
Organized in June 1976, the program has grown from delivering 30 meals per
day to an average of 650 meals per day. Hot, nutritious, and delicious meals
are prepared and packed five days a week at the William Law Watkins Meals on
Wheels Center.
The program receives no federal or state funds; therefore, Meals on Wheels
depends on the generosity of the community for its survival. Ours is truly a
program of “neighbors helping neighbors.”
