FAQ's......

What is Meals on Wheels?

Meals on Wheels is a not-for-profit program organized especially to supply well-balanced, nutritious meals and a daily personal contact to the homebound.

Who may receive meals?

Regardless of age or economic status, anyone who lives alone, is homebound, handicapped, or convalescing from an illness or operation and is unable to prepare adequate meals, is eligible for our program. A personal interview is conducted to determine eligibility.

When are meals delivered?

Hot meals are delivered to the home Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Frozen meals are delivered for weekend use or as needed.

How much does it cost?

The cost for a hot, well-balanced, nutritional meal is about $3. While there is no charge for the meals, recipients who are able to do so are encouraged to make a monthly contribution toward this service

Who prepares the meals?

Meals are prepared and packaged in the William Law Watkins Center at 105 South Fant Street. We have a paid kitchen staff working under the direction of Jeanie Cochran, our food service manager. Volunteers come in each weekday to work the packing line.

Who delivers the meals?

Volunteer route drivers pick up the meals each weekday from our center and deliver to recipients. They use their own vehicles and are not reimbursed for fuel expenses. About 60 volunteers a day are needed to ensure meals are prepared and delivered on a timely basis. The drivers also provide a daily personal contact to homebound recipients.
